The Second Contribution of Freud to the History of Psychology

Freud pioneered the idea of interpretation. He said that if you made observations about the right kind of behavior, a dream, or as we talked about slip of the tongue, that sort of thing, then you can essentially read that behavior the same way that you'd read a novel. And so this maps on to what we think of as the two approaches in CP snows to cultures: scientists experiments, humanists interpret,. That's why Freud is more influential in literature and in anthropology because those are disciplines that are comfortable using interpretation.
