The Battle Over Books in Schools
Parents were packing school board meetings to read and comment on passages from library books meant for teen agers. Texas governor greg abbott called for criminal investigations into any school official who stocked library shelves with descriptions of sex, which he cribed as pornography. In some instances, said these books were leading kids to improperly question their sexuality and gender identity. Sarah chase was the librarian at carroll senior high she'd retired a month earlier, and was still getting used to describing her career in the past tense.
