Emperor Komei's Life

Emperor Komei was privately tutored in calligraphy and developed quite a facility with different forms of poetry, something he'd later bond with his son over. Life at pretty much every step of the way was marked by elaborate rituals intended to commemorate important moments in the Prince's coming of age. We know that Kome was not particularly bookish as a student, but had no penchant for reading beyond what was required of him. But beyond this, we don't know much.
