I was a functional alcoholic. I never got in trouble at work. But part of being a good nurse is your heart is in what you're doing. In my addiction heart takes a back seat. It becomes a dead thing. And so you're faking it. So in that four year period of time, probably I was sober for a lot longer than I was using. But I couldn't stay stopped."
