Derek Thompson: England has deindustrialized more than any of these other countries. As you get richer, you want to move away from manufacturing and get into services,. And it's just a natural path of like, you know, worrying about being stuck in a coal mine or whatever. After 2008, great financial crisis, that engine completely broke. So what has England done over the past decade? A lot to come back and spending higher taxes. Then as the economy hit the shitter, the conservative party, who did they blame? They blame the EU, then you get Brexit.
