The Reconciliation of Religion and Morality in American Politics
Anglo-Saxon doesn't have quite the meaning in America that it does in Britain, but it meant a Protestant ascendancy where the establishment would be comfortably and securely Protestant. And so if the country was veering in a wrong direction, you could trust these people who understood the original mission of America to set it right. Now we're in a very different situation. The fact that we aren't a different situation is a historic achievement for the U.S. It's this reconciliation of the different religious groups that has permitted religion and morality to come flooding back into American politics in a major way.
