The Pros and Cons of Using a Hosted Runner on GitHub

GitHub pay Docker ink a certain amount of money to have a pool token. So when people run Docker pull in hosted runner, he uses that key and it's authenticated. On the on the pro side, it's a completely mutable environment every build. But if you're pulling a big image like two gigs, then you've got that empty cache. That's potentially a con. And so we wrote up some instructions, wrote a GitHub action that configures a cache on the server where all the micro VMs are. Then you actually get it get faster than if you want to host it front, because it's literally over the loopback.
