The Appalation Trail

The first person to suggest the appellation trail was a guy named benton mckay. He wanted it to be a kind of socialist, communal space where people would escape urban centres and get out of there. It took him another 20 years to even get the proposal together. The automobile allows you to get out to the mountains and allow you to hitch hike back but it aso makes urban spaces so chaotic and so polluted that more people want to get out into the mountains. And what resonated with people was this beautiful commune in the mountains.
