Phage Therapy in the Soviet Union
Zia Koutotalaanzi is director of the Yale Institute of Specterophages, Microbiology and Virology in Georgia. Phage therapy isn't new to science, but when antibiotics were discovered in the beginning of the 20th century, Western medicines interested in studying them declined sharply. In the Soviet Union, where access to antibiotics was limited, doctors continued using phages to cure infections.
