How Important Is History in Politics?

In order to understand the circumstances of to day, we have to know what happened in the past. One of my favorite characters in history has been a nicolas machiavelli. And i got frommachiavelli is that you cannot really be a statesman if you don't have a conscience of the past. What would be the number one class any person who wants to become a public servant should take? It definitely is history.
