Ruth's class and the way she looked were hot topics. A great deal was made about her requesting to have her hair dyed blonde before her trial, just like Roxy Hart in Chicago. People were getting reprieved all the time. But would that be the case with Ruth? The nation awaited Ruth's trial with baited breath. And it wasn't just women either. On the 1st of April 1955, 28-year-old Alfred Wayman was reprieved four days before his execution date. He had stabbed his girlfriend, Josie Lavin, to death and then tried to kill himself with the same knife, but failed.
