Liberal international insident es out two things here. There is a kind of globalization that is about lifting barriers, allowing goods, services to cross borders. And that indeed has lifted a billion people out of poverty all over asia and africa. But we should be careful before eliding that into wanting more powerful global technocracies with more power to overrule democratic governments. Because that is the opposite of lifting barriers out of people's way. That is about imposing barriers, and often doing so in policy areas which would not have succeeded if they had gone through national legislatures.
