i think that in the free will debate there can be various places where there's tendencies to talk past one another. The term can can be used to pick out different kinds of capacity or modal terms, or pportunities an agent has. And so a key part, for example, of my kind of overall defensive libritarianism is really a kind of two stage fit defense. First, we've got to get clear on what we mean by moral accountability, and then we have to ask ourselves, what kinds of motal features, abilities, opportunities, how whatever we want to call them, must be true of an agent for her to be morally accountable.
