utilitarianism is the view that when we talk about good consequences, we mean improving the welfare of all those affected. It's different from what people might have encountered in econ one o one which i think often gives utilitarianism a sort of bad name. The classical utilitarians would not have agreed with that though, because they were interested in what produces happiness and the absence of suffering,. And preferences don't always do that.
