In the 1970s, unemployment was high and so was inflation. The economic downturn was a gift to the far right who were quick to blame immigrants for the UK's stalling economy. Tharik tried to stay under the radar as racism was all around him. He didn't know where to go or what to do when he first arrived in Britain.
