Women Can't Become Astronauts

President Kennedy said the U.S. would try to put an American astronaut on the moon by the end of the 1960s. At this point, there weren't any rules saying that women couldn't become astronauts. But NASA did require all astronaut applicants to be military test pilots. That was a job that was not open to women at the time because women were not allowed to be in military combat roles.
