The Discovery of John Berger
When I'd left University literature for me meant well either poetry or or fiction really and it was the discover and the problem with writing fiction is that I'd never been able to think of any stories. The discovery of John Berger was so important because there was this way of writing that he was demonstrating which was both creative and critical. It wasn't at all a sort of Eureka moment like that but I think that would be the decisive exposure to something that made a path available to me.
