The Persistence of Habit

If you really had to deliberate upon taking any kind of action and ask yourself, is this truly what i want to do as an expression of my freedom, life probably would become unbearable. So in some senses, ponty's argument for habit and the persistence of habit is really a relief. The fact that we do so many things habitually and notd aly a freeze up a lot of our cogmitive time to focus on other things. And paradoxically, i think you're on to something there, because it does also create conditions of a kind of freedom.
