The crucial variable in whether or not you can forgive somebody is if you can see how this person has changed. Do they regret lying to you, or do they have some defensive story about why it was necessary? Those are the kinds of details that matter, right? I think to forgive someone, we need to feel that there's a plausible path that stretches from who they used to be when they intentionally injured us and what they purport to be now.
