Are they some sort of universal rules for the occurrence of patterns, or can they just just emerge? But even mathematical chaos is a pattern, because mathematical chaos isn't random ness. It is driven by patterns. The patterns are so sensitive to the initial conditions, how things start off, that we can't predict the way they're going to develop.
