How Many Years Have We Had an Inflation Rate Below 2 Percent?
Inflation was below 2 percent for seven consecutive years if you count 1959 because in that year the inflation rate was actually below 1 percent. It took Paul Volcker all the way to 1986 to get inflation back down to 2 percent and it didn't get back below or even hit 2 percent for another 12 years. The last time we had an inflation rate above 4 percent until 2021 when it was 4.7 and then 6.5 percent in 2022.
