The History of Engagement Rings

In the 19th century it was quite common for both men and women to give each other engagement rings. The modern engagement ring model appears to have arisen out of the conjuncture of the 1930s, where the diamond business was in terrible trouble. A push by the diamond and the jewelry business to popularize the use of engagement rings coincided with changes in the American legal system.
