The Holocaust really shook the faith and foundations in notions like social sciences and humanities. By the end of the 40s by the early 1950s there was this acutely felt need for new models of what it meant to be human. And so I think the story telling as sort of not humanist practices per se but structural systemic practices that don't necessarily rest merely on the human mind or the human conscience, but rather something more impersonal.
