The Story of Operation Gunnarside
Operation Gunnarside destroyed half a ton of heavy water, and the electrolysis chambers at Vermalk were seriously damaged. They set back production of heavy water for the Nazis by roughly six months. The members of Operation Gunnarside became the most decorated group of saboteurs in World War II. Against all odds, these young men had survived truly extreme conditions and an incredibly dangerous mission. Their motive had simply been to serve their country while it was under Nazi occupation.
