The Christmas Truce
The Christmas truce continues as a story amongst veterans in the 1920s and 30s, but tends to be confined to their carkey circles. The moment where things began to shift and the Christmas truce takes on a life of its own is at the 50th anniversary in the 1960s. By the early 21st century with commemorations marking the centenary of the Great War, the Christmas truce has become a touchdown to memorialize the conflict. It even plays out on prime-time TV and a Doctor Who Christmas special. More controversially it forms the backdrop for a three-minute commercial for British supermarket giant Sainsbury's called Christmas is for sharing.
