The Christmas Truce of 1914 (Repeat)
Short History Of...
00:00
The Battle of No Man's Land
Truce is more about practicalities of clearing the dead than any notion of wanting to make friends with the enemy. On either side men line up to pay their respects, while German and British chaplains take turns reading prayers. The Germans inscribe little wooden crosses with the words 'For far to learn and for far to learn' on them. But there are flashes of tension between the two sides as one man tries to get a letter from his girlfriend back in England.
