The Negative Power of Authority
We believe that authority in silencing our ability to make choices will provide us with at least some constancy and some security. There's a proper place for authority in human life I think we would both say but uh it becomes a kind of dangerous situation when you have people just reaching for authority for authority's sake without any reason as to why that needs to be in this particular place in this particular way. The art of choosing is concentrated so far on the personal right like what do you do when you're 22 and not sure next day about what to do with your life, he says.
