The Transformation of the Black Working Class in Britain

The first significant strike of Black Asian and migrant workers was the Red Scar Mill strike in Preston in 1965. Sujata mentioned two key disputes which occurred after this. The first of them was the Mansfield Hosey strike which took place in Loughborough in 1972. Colour bar was standard terminology referring to racial segregation employment. In the UK it wasn't as formalised as say in the US under Jim Crow or apartheid South Africa but it was a fact of life in many places.
