That man's a tough as nails is often used to describe someone who is strong and resilient. So it rather emphasizes their ability to endure difficult situations with unwavering determination. Another phrase I used in the text was to water off a duck's back. It basically suggests that just as water slides off a duck’s feathers, without having any impact, the person being referred to remains unaffected by what others say or do. The very last expression is to throw chaps at
