Ukraine - I Don't Apologize for Bringing Ukraine Back Up
The Russian military had been reformed enough that a war like Ukraine could seem plausible, but not enough that it actually turned out to be winnable. So there's the real dilemma there for the Russians. But thirdly, we have to recognize the degree to which this was one of these wars which could have gone in different ways. Instead what we got was a war as envisaged by a collection of aged spooks whose military experience between them was probably equivalent to my own.
