The Three Waves of Environmental Interest After the Second World War
When ecological economics got a breakthrough is much related to not only the cognitive development, but really more the changing social conditions. And I think that we can think about it in terms of the three waves of environmental interest after the Second World War. The first wave is really from the late 1960s to the early 70s. Here we really got a breakthrough for some of these ideas. But this was still a minority decision within ecology to do that. If you then look at what did the economists do, they revived the old idea about externalities, which really dates back to the 1920s.
