The Importance of Listening to Music on Learning
Researchers recruited 32 instrumental music majors to learn a short passage. All students were allowed one 12 minute training session sometime between eight and ten p m, in which they practised a 13 note melody with their left hand. Every one was instructed to play the melody as quickly, accurately and nly as possible. But those in the listening group were also presented with a recording of the passage, which they heard ten times before doing any practising. About 12 hours later, after a night of sleep, they returned to the lab to see how much of the previous evening's practice stuck.
