The Importance of Consciousness in Paradise
The truth of Dante's divine comedy doesn't mean that we would have the same journey if we underwent it. In certain respects may be very different indeed so for example one of the things which you notice with William Blake's image is that the dark would that Dante finds himself in isn't actually dark but rather a beautiful pleasing place. The differences between different interpreters and illustrators of the divine comedy aren't contesting its truth precisely the opposite they're showing how deeper truths must come to be known within us not just delivered as if their objective reports mirror each other.
