Tolkien stuff is so iconic, not just on a literary level, but on an artistic level. Tolkien himself did a lot of artwork. Alan Lee and John Howe established this mind blowing artistic canon for Tolkien that's mostly paintings and sketches. And then beyond Tolkien himself, you've got this artistic canon that develops with the cartoons.
