The Importance of Experts in Transplantation Deliberations
In the end, over a ten year period of learning and debate, a community of people changed its mind about what was reasonable to do. It's not that consensus was achieved, so much as a kind of earned mutual acquiescence to a particular se of values compromises. People were sort of worn down until they were ready to accept the inevitably imperfect compromise that they had played a hand in creating.
