How to Walk a Lobster
In lab tests, the maximum recorded walking speed of a lobster is 2.5 metres per minute or 144 metres an hour. Gerard de Nevel, the 19th century French poet who had a pet lobster called Tibil, used to walk around Paris on a blue silk ribbon. He said they are peaceful, serious creatures, they know the secrets of the sea and they don't bark. And it was a very sedate job, because I checked this out. It feels like at some stage you would end up dragging the lobster more than walking. Then you got to get back for lobster dragging.
