Sapho: A Classics Translator's Guide

Sapho was written hundreds of years before even Plato and the people that were used to reading as ancients. She's so many poems where there are enough solid poetry there to work with. And then another big hole we have just sort of presenting another degree of difficulty for you is our knowledge of Sappho herself. So whenever it's on papyrus, yes, it is difficult. It's a really different experience than reading Euripides or Sophocles Where we usually have more than one copy of it.
