Augustus himself stood for the consul that year, so he could oversee gaiu's ceremonial transition into manhood. He also promised the people that lucius would be able to follow a similar path and slated him for a consulship when he turned 20. With t berius now gone, augustus needed to get both boys up to speed as soon as possible. But if he put the tenager in charge, would the whole thing backfire?
