Is a Hologram Really a Three D Object?

In theory, you could describe the universe in terms of any number of dimensions. But we're looking for the most compact and simplest description. And i guess it also sort of depends on what you define a space, right? Like space. Either space is naturally three dimensional, or its two dimensions with this extra wiggle room in it that allows us to experience it as if it was three dimensions.
