Most of the 38 bodies were found clustered around this overwing exit. This exit was the first available to 76 passengers seated behind it or even with it and the nearest exit for 100 passengers. Once he had opened the L1 door, there was a log jam of passengers formed in the narrow aisle between the galley bulkheads which she had to free by pulling passengers clear. Back then that bulkhead opening was only 22.5 inches wide. The number four stewardess initially had to keep passengers out of the galley while the person was dealing with the doors.
