How To Talk To Kids About Anything

CHAPTER

How to Name and Own Emotions When Dealing With Grief

A common struggle that I have seen grieving children go through or really children that have experienced any kind of traumatic event is that it can be really hard to name and own those feelings at first. So many of the activities in the book give children the opportunity first to name these feelings in somebody else or to imagine the feelings happening to someone else as sort of a gateway for eventually being able to own and name those feelings for themselves. It feels more inviting and less overwhelming than immediately having to dig deep into their own story and their own emotional life.
