The Origins of Ostra Kismos in Athens
Ostra Kismos was the political weapon that Christhenes had forged to resolve such dangerous situations. The first three on the Athenian record, according to Aristotle, were aimed at those considered to be friends of the tyrants. Around 6000 ostrac have been found either in the Agora, the Acropolis, or the Karamikos with the names of Hipparchus, Megacles, and Calias. Many scholars have suspected that Themistocles was the mastermind behind these ostracisms.
