The Role of Pedagog in the First Century

The Greek word that Paul uses for guardian here is pedagagos, which translates as pedagagos. The term usually refers to in our Western world in the modern sense as a teacher. In the first century, the idea of pedagog was much different than that of a teacher. It was a guardian who was hired when a young individual came upon his or her inheritance before they were old enough to claim that inheritance legally.
