The Advertising Industry in San Francisco

I worked as a contractor for this consulta company, working at multiple ad agencies and doing the same kind of stuff. But i was paid pretty, pretty badly, i have to sayt it wasn't worth that much. To live in san francisco, even then, on that salary, i only lasted there for a couple of years. So how do you find the money? Was ital. San francisco is not a cheap place to live, is it?
