The Importance of Yaram and Thumbam in the Bible
It's possible that the term yuram and thumbam, which is in the Old Testament, it shows up several times. I feel comfortable with the idea that Joseph may have picked up on that later as a term that was biblical. It doesn't sound as biblical to say that he's using a seer stone or he's scrying or he's looking in a glass. None of those terms from his culture would quite hit the ear the same than through the yuram and thumbamwhich was provided with the plates. That brings a level of respectability and familiarity.
