The World's Biggest Producer of Coffee

Coffee had been taken to Brazil in 1727 but it's not really till the beginning of the 19th century that plantations take off. In Brazil, they're particularly on the Atlantic seaboard around Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The labour that's used on them is slave labour far later than anywhere else. From 1870 through to 1950, Brazil supplied more than 50% of the world's global supply of coffee.
