The Power of Grief
The mind is steeped in Newtonian causality, that says the world changes through applying a force to it. But there's another causal principle here at work that does not contradict what the heart will have us do when it is in touch with reality via grief and celebration. The more we anchor that choice into the world, the more it happens everywhere. You're creating a morphic field of being present with someone you love, and treating that as important.
