The Progression of Genesis
There are many points at which we can see things that remind us of the beginning of Genesis, but clearly represent some movement beyond it. And so there's a sense in which the riches that are described as being out in the wider land at the start of Genesis have been taken in. I think we're dealing very clearly with some sort of maturation taking place. Now this is not a Hegelian vision of maturation. It's not the way in which we have a sort of modern idealization of Wiggish progress. This is a vision that's very clearly native to the scripture itself."
