The Role of Analogies in Creativity
Sylvia: I like to think of knowledge and understanding as almost in sort of a circular interdependency so i need to know something about the lungs and the heart to begin to really understand the system. Having enhanced understanding changes the degree to which the kinds of knowledge you acquire which therefore also influences understanding. We're always tethered to what we already know but analogy can be a very powerful tool for understanding or achieving insight into something novel because it allows us to continue to be tethered in something that we already do know and understand yet make a leap into into a novel realm. Sleep plays a critical role in learning while it feels like nothing during your time is actually doing a lot of work
