Bottlenosed Dolphins - Can Dolphins Reap the Tastes?

Bottle nosed dolphins do not have an olfactory bulb. Their nose is their blow hole. This meant that if they were going to have anything in the cymo sensory realm, it would have to be gustatory or taste. In people, whatever we think about subtleties of flavor, usually smell is heavily relied on because our taste buds are so basic. We don't know whether dolphin's capability to recognize long chain limpid molecules through some sort of limpid receptor allows them to recognize each other through gustatory mechanisms.
